Community Member Donates $500,000 to EPS Foundation, EHS Students

The Enid Public School Foundation received the final installment of a $1 million-dollar scholarship today from Ray Davis.

The Vicki and Kevin Davis Scholarship, named for Davis’ children, provide Enid High School seniors who have successfully participated in the Vicki and Kevin Davis Scholarship at the University Center and are slated to attend Oklahoma State University or Northern Oklahoma College in the fall. Seniors who plan to attend a career or Vo-Tech institution are also encouraged to apply. Nine students are currently benefitting from the scholarship at various higher education institutes.

The funds provided today with give students pursuing a higher education $40,000 total, or $5,000 a semester. Davis is hoping to give many students a helping hand with these funds in addition to other academic scholarships they will qualify for with their outstanding GPAs.

“My feelings started with my father, who had a fourth-grade education,” said Davis. “He told me you have to do what you have to do to earn your way. All you need is an opportunity and that is what I am hoping to give these students – an opportunity.”

Davis gave $500,000 in 2019 with the remaining funds set aside for donation in 2023. Davis has now decided to give the funds early to EHS scholars.

Janna Jackson, Executive Director of the EPS Foundation, thanked Davis for his generous donation once again to EHS Plainsmen and Pacers.

“The generosity of Mr. Davis never fails to amaze me,” said Jackson. “He has a genuine interest in giving students an opportunity to change their lives through education. These scholarships are substantial and not only impact current students, but create generational change.”

Vicki Davis graduated EHS in 1973 and Kevin Davis graduated in 1975. Their grandfather, Perry C. Davis, established the P.C. Davis Construction Company, and together with his son, Ray Davis, built 18 school buildings for EPS, Phillips University, the career tech system, and other area school district.

In 2013, Ray Davis made a $314,000 donation to the EPS Foundation for students attending the Enid High School University Center. The funds would be used exclusively for students with a financial need who wished to take concurrent classes. Current Vicki and Kevin Davis Scholarship recipients are eligible for the higher education scholarship.

Scholarship applications for Class of 2022 are due in the EHS counselor’s office by January 26, 2022.
